Allah does not desire sacrifice

Key verses
  • Psalm 51:16-17: "For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise".
  • Hosea 6:6: "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings".
  • 1 Samuel 15:22: "But Samuel declared: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to His voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams".
  • Psalm 40:6-8: "In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required".
  • Micah 6:8: "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?".
  • Matthew 9:13: Jesus says, "But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners".
